Four Signs It’s Time for New Water Heater Installation

Your water heater is easily one of the most-used pieces of equipment in your home, and it’s also the least thought of… until there’s a problem, that is. Water heaters provide all of the hot water used in a day, and we rely on them all the time. Unfortunately, water heaters have a limited lifespan and will give some indicators when it might be time for replacement.

Four Signs It’s Time for New Water Heater Installation

1. Leaks in the Closet- If you don’t routinely check in the closet where your hot water heater is stored, you should. One early indicator that you have a hot water heater problem is that it will begin leaking around the base. If you notice water damage around the base of your water heater, it may be time for new water heater installation.

2. Less Hot Water- Have you noticed that those long, hot showers you used to enjoy aren’t lasting as long as before? Sometimes you run out of hot water because you are using multiple appliances at one time and the water heater isn’t equipped to handle that much use. However, your water heater running out of hot water more often than not is a sign that it could need servicing or will be meeting its end very soon.

3. Old Age- The standard water heater only lasts between 10 and 15 years before it needs to be replaced. You can check for the dates of service and the age of the water heater to determine if water heater installation will be in your near future.

4. Strange Noises- If there aren’t any visual indicators of a hot water heater going bad, you can also listen for strange sounds like clicking and clanking coming from the water heater. When you turn on the hot water and hear odd noises that shouldn’t be coming from your water heater, you’ll want to have it checked right away, as replacement may be necessary.
